How does it work with your day?
Handle Any Disruptions
As amazing as it is to have your dog part of your special day it is important that it an also run as as smoothly and as perfectly as you have planned. Having a chaperone means that any incidents or interruptions that your furry friend may bring to your day can be mitigated.
Important moments which require more tranquil and calmer settings like your ceremony may be interrupted by your furry star guest becoming over excited for example. I will work to keep your dog happy in whatever way works for them. This can be distracting them with treats and their favourite cuddly toy or if necessary take them away from the area if appropriate, they can be entertained or even taken for a little stroll to ensure they are safe and happy if they become over stimulated or excited.
2. Plan for Bathroom Breaks
Its is a given that your dog will need bathroom breaks throughout the day, especially if your dog will be attending for several hours. Having a chaperone at your wedding will mean you can avoid any unwanted bathroom displays in-front of your guests. A walk or potty break before the ceremony begins, and then again before the reception. You don’t want your dog having an accident in the middle of the ceremony or while guests are eating!
3. Consider Your Dog’s Role in the Wedding
If your dog is playing a main role in your day like walking down the aisle or acting as a ring bearer, make sure to rehearse the walk with them so they know what to expect. Keep in mind that not every dog enjoys this type of attention, so be sure your dog is comfortable with their responsibilities. If you're worried about your dog’s reaction, it’s okay to have them attend as a guest, rather than a participant. Be sure to speak to your chaperone about any concerns you have as they may be able to work with you and check out the extras on the Love Tails packages if you would like your chaperone to attend rehearsals and additional meet and greets!
4. Prepare Your Dog Ahead of Time
Training is key! If your dog isn't already well-trained or accustomed to being around large groups of people, begin preparation well before the wedding day. Take your dog to busy public places, like parks or pet-friendly events, so they get used to the sounds and bustle of crowds. It is just as important for the dog to enjoy the day and feel comfortable as it is for you, a happy dog makes for a much more relaxing day!
